A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android

An NES game made for the Cozy Spring Game Jam

Ran out of time unfortunately (I tried programming the game in just 3 hours but ended up spending almost all the time debugging),  but here is what I got.

Mainly just a title screen and the music that plays on the title screen.

I programmed in 6502 assembly, which was probably my main mistake because of the time limit. It was my first time programming in 6502 assembly as well. Source Code

Maybe writing a game engine on the fly isn't a great idea.

The game idea:

You would play as a lizard which hibernates at the center of the earth.

Now that it's spring you must get back to the surface.

It would've been a platformer which would scroll vertically.

The main mechanic would've been heat, which would allow you to jump, dash, tunnel upwards, and melt ice. The lizard is cold blooded and has a limited amount of heat before you would be unable to use those abilities until you find a heat source. The levels would have a bit of a puzzle element to them relying on the conservation of heat.

The difficulty would scale as heat gets more scarce and you have to think about how to get to the next heat source without running out of heat before you get there. Once you run out of heat you would've been able to just jump down to the previous heat source. (Game overs are not cozy)

Install instructions

Download the game and run using an NES emulator.

Some emulators (If you don't already have one) :

  • FCEUX (Downloadable Emulator)
    • Pretty much perfect
  • Pinky (Online Emulator)
    • Crashes once you start the game, but has good audio emulation for the title screen.
      • You aren't missing much, the actual game has almost nothing made
